One particular form of hypospadias, called megameatus with intact prepuce (MIP) hypospadias, can be discovered during newborn circumcision. Although many medical schools teach that the circumcision should be stopped mid-procedure when this is the case, we and others have found that this is not necessary. Repairing MIP hypospadias after a patient has had a circumcision gives the same results as in those without circumcision.
Prior circumcision does not complicate repair of hypospadias with an intact prepuce.
