Hi, welcome back to PARC Parent Pointers Video Blog. If you haven’t already go check out last weeks video that talks all about what to expect right after surgery in regards to feeding instructions and when to give pain medication. This video is all about what to anticipate before surgery in regards to feeding instructions.
This video is VERY IMPORTANT because it is the biggest reason we have to reschedule or cancel surgery. Feeding instructions are important because we need your son to have an empty tummy for surgery. The instructions are below, but the anesthesiologist will always call the evening before surgery to confirm feeding instructions.
Clear liquids – 2 hours prior to surgery – Any liquid you can see through, such as water, Pedialyte, apple juice, Gatorade and other clear juices. No orange juice.
Breast Milk – 4 hours prior to surgery. This means the last feeding needs to end at the 4 hour mark, not begin.
Formula Milk – 6 hours prior to surgery. This means the last feeding needs to end at the 6 hour mark, not begin.
We have a feeding instructions information sheet on our website, but I can also email that information to you so that you have it before surgery. There is no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to feeding instructions or when to eat, so please inform our office of any questions or concerns. Stay tuned for next weeks video that talks all about how our office decides check in times for surgery.
If you have a question or a topic you would like me to discuss in further detail please email me at care@parcurology.com.
Thanks for blogging with Bri!
